With life becoming increasing more busy, many people simply don’t have time to think about what they can do to help the environment, or the steps they can take to start living green. Here are some easy tips and items for an on-the-go lifestyle that won’t hurt the planet.
Buy in bulk – Buying in bulk and stocking up on sale items saves money and decreases the amount of packaging used. Also, you won’t be scrambling to buy new paper towels or soap when you frequently run out. Of course, make sure you have places to store all of your bulk items!
Totes Eco-brella – This umbrella is made with 70% recycled materials and is great for rainy Seattle weather. The canopy is made from 100% recycled PET bottles and the frame is made form 70% recycled aluminum. The Notch/Runner is made from 100% recycled Nylon. The handle is made from bamboo and has a waxed hemp strap for holding. For an added bonus, it comes in environmentally friendly packaging and proudly displays the recycled symbol within a raindrop on both the canopy and tie strap and can be purchased in many different colors!
Motherboard business card case – For the eco-nerd in all of us, the Motherboard business card case is the perfect way to carry business cards with you when you are on the go. The sleek case is made from recycled circuit board covers that clasps over a metal base. Motherboard was founded in 1991 and makes many other recycled circuit board products. They estimate using 25,000 to 30,000 pounds of circuit boards that would have otherwise ended up in a landfill.

If you constantly are using gadgets such as a laptop, cell phone or mp3 player, you’ll need to charge them! Reusable bags – Store bags in your car or in an easy-to-grab spot as you are walking out the door. Reusable bags hold more than plastic or paper bags and are easily carried and are starting a revolution. The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that more 380 billion plastic bags are used in the United States each year and each bag may take up to 1,000 years to break down.
Bike to work – If you are able to, of course. This decreases your spending on gas, parking costs, as well as time spent just trying to find a parking spot! It also improves your help by giving you a time to exercise each day. Hen & Hammock from the UK even produce a recycled bicycle basket made from old packaging tape. It has two handles so you can use it as a shopping basket, and two straps so it can be attached to your bike!
